Course Evals...

Since final grades for last term are turned in, I'm not able to see my student course evaluations for my courses. Here is a summary of the ones for my Intro class:

And this is about as good a written comment as could be asked for:

Always willing to help and makes philosophy interesting. I'm thinking about majoring in philosophy now because of him. Dr. Timpe is one of the best professors I have ever had and this class was life-changing.

When I first looked at this and noticed the "1" in the "Average" column, I thought that was referring "Overall rating of instructor." I thought of commenting something to the effect of "whoever says this should be caned for saying such a thing." Then I though, well, different people have different learning styles, are more easily offended, etc, so maybe they shouldn't be caned since a difference in your teaching style and their learning style isn't something to blame a person for, etc, . Then again, I'd say that it is more likely that the person would have rated you "average" due to the difficulty of your assignments or "ruthless grading", but then if they think the assignments/grading are unfairly harsh, this is probably due to their lack of attention paid in class, lack of preparation, reading, etc.

... then I noticed that said person actually rated the *course* "average," so I felt kind of bad for wanting to cane someone who is actually "innocent" of rating you an "average" professor.

You crack me up, Kidd.

So should I send the students that have rated me 'below average' before up to talk to you?
