At this point in the day, we're still relatively safe. Here is a picture taken about a block from our house, looking south toward the fire on the US/Mexico border:

The smell of fire is unmistakable on the air, and our throats and noses can feel it.
Of the two main fires near us, the one to the north is 5% contained, and the other to the south is 0% contained.

(We are just to the west of the E in El Cajon. The dark pink is what is currently burning. The light pink is the mandatory evacuation area.)
USD, as well as SDSU and UCSD have already closed the universities for tomorrow. I have students, and Al has colleagues, who are among those forced to evacuate.
