More good news. The winds are continuing to subside, and the worst of the fires are being contained. More residents are being allowed to return to their neighborhoods. I no longer think that we will have to evacuate.
The reports of deaths are still amazingly low--still only 2 confirmed deaths. Not bad considering 300,000 acres have been burned and nearly 1/6 of SD residents have been evacuated at some point.
USD (as well as SDSU and UCSD) are closed for the rest of the week, with only essential employees being asked to come in. (And philosophers don't count as essential!)
The outpouring from the local community has been amazing. Qualcomm Stadium, where the Charges play, has 10,000+ people staying in it, and has begun to turn away donations because they don't need any more. Someone also set up a wireless network for evacuees to email family and friends. I've had multiple students offer to let us stay with them or store stuff at their apartments if we needed to evacuate.
